St. Joseph Catholic School adheres to Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, Title IX of the Education Amendment of 1972, and Americans with Disabilities Act, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, race, color, national origin, or physical ability. St. Joseph Catholic School has an open admission policy. No person, on the grounds of race, color, disability or national origin, is excluded or otherwise subjected to discrimination in the receiving of services. Nor does the school discriminate in hiring, promotion, discharge, pay, fringe benefits, job training, classification, referral and other aspects of employment on the basis of race, color, disability, age, gender, or national origin.
St. Joseph Catholic School reserves the right to refuse admission to a student if the school deems it cannot meet the student’s educational needs, judges that the student’s discipline record is below the school’s standards, the family has been delinquent in payments, and/or the school has received little cooperation from the family concerning school events and/or policies. Any student entering the Little Lambs program, Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten or First Grade must be 3, 4, 5, or 6, respectively, on or before September 1st of the school year for which enrollment is requested. This is Florida State Law and also a requirement of the Diocese of Palm Beach. Children entering St. Joseph Catholic School in the fall must also be completely toilet trained before the admission date. Students seeking admission to St. Joseph Catholic School in Grades Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten will have an entrance screening and interview with appropriate school personnel. Students seeking enrollment in Grades 1 through 7 take a grade appropriate entrance assessment. This evaluation will include language arts/reading skills and mathematics readiness. The assessment instrument provides the school with an indication of a student's potential for success at St. Joseph Catholic School. Students will be interviewed by the Principal during the admission process. Given the mission of St. Joseph Catholic School as an agent of Catholic Christian formation, the school accepts children whose parents demonstrate an understanding of the specifically Christian nature of the school and the desire to participate in that mission. Denial of acceptance for some students may be because the school’s educational program and facilities are unable to meet the needs of the child. In matters of admission and registration, the decisions of the Pastor and Principal are final. Parents must provide the school with the child’s birth certificate, baptismal certificate (if Catholic), medical and immunization record (680A & DH 3040) showing Hepatitis Vaccine series and varicella (chicken pox) vaccine. These vaccinations are pursuant to Rule 10b-3.088, F.A.C. Students entering First Grade must show proof of completion from an accredited Kindergarten program and provide two letters of recommendation, one from the principal and one from a teacher of the previous school. Students entering grades 2 through 8 must also provide a copy of their final report card, copies of standardized testing results and provide two letters of recommendation, one from the principal and one from a teacher of the previous school. At the completion of the entrance assessments and upon receipt of the requested documentation, the school will notify parents in writing of a child’s admission status. Catholic applicants will also need the Pastoral letter found in the registration packet completed by the pastor of their church. St. Joseph Catholic School places new students on probation for academics and conduct for five weeks. If the school does not receive the student's cumulative file by the end of the five week period, the probationary period is extended (barring any behavioral or academic issues during the initial probationary period). At the mid-point of the first marking period, the administration, the student, and teachers will meet and discuss the student’s progress. Provided the student is maintaining a minimum of a “C” average and the behavior is satisfactory, the student is permitted to remain at St. Joseph Catholic School. Should teachers and/or the administration have any concerns regarding a child’s academic progress or behavior, an appointment will be scheduled with the parents to discuss the future of the child at St. Joseph Catholic School. If during the probationary period a child proves to be disruptive or fails to succeed, the school may exercise its option to have the child placed in another academic setting. In asking for their children's acceptance into this parish school, Catholic parents agree to attend their parish Mass with their family every Sunday. The area parishes, at great expense and sacrifice, subsidize the real cost of a student’s enrollment in the school. Out of justice to those who come to Mass each Sunday and contribute to the parish in a stewardship commitment of their time, talent, and treasure, parishes cannot continue to underwrite the educational costs of students whose parents do not bring them to the Eucharist every Sunday. The school and neighboring parishes strive to provide age appropriate liturgies for Catholic children. Therefore, all children in the parish school are to attend one of their local parish Masses each weekend. Students not accepted due to full classrooms are placed on a waiting list.
